I Blame the Brits

I discovered a mistake in my knitting after it was all bound off, and I blame the British people and their bloody good television programs. I watched the Masterpiece Classic “Any Human Heart” series this weekend while trying to work an easy lace knitting pattern. Somewhere along the way I yarned over when I should have just knitted, leaving a hole in one of the inner solid diamonds (see photo). Oh well, I can live with it. I was also a little disappointed with how the neck edge turned out. I followed the instructions, but the edge looks ragged. I think that I'm supposed to add a crochet border around the neckline once both pieces are finished. Hopefully that will make it look better than it does now.

As for the Brits, I have been completely taken over by their films and television series lately—my own personal British invasion I suppose. Over the past few weeks, in addition to Any Human Heart (which I sat in one spot for over four hours watching) I’ve watched Upstairs, Downstairs (the 2010 update with Keeley Hawes), Northanger Abbey, Death at a Funeral (the 2007 British version with Matthew Macfayden), South Riding and Downton Abbey. The writing is fantastic and I was completely pulled into every character … which is perhaps why there is an unintentional hole in my knitting.

I still have to work on the front piece of the tunic, which requires even more lace diamond patterns. I think I’ll put on some Coltrane and avoid the television this time around.

Cheers!
