Are You Going to Eat That?

I dropped my pancake on my keyboard. That’s how my morning started out. It crumbled slightly over the hyphen and plus keys and will have to be scraped off once it dries, otherwise I will end up smearing a moist pancake into the keys and possibly messing something up. I don’t exactly want to have the “um, I dropped a pancake on my keyboard” discussion with tech support when they asked what happened.

So, as I mentioned in my last post, I started work on the Streamside short-sleeve cardigan with pockets (which I love), but about 20 or so rows into it I realized I must have been doing something wrong. It was taking on an odd shape around the neckline. I don’t think I did the k1-rb correctly. So I frogged it and will try again soon with another yarn. The other problem, outside of my increase error, was that the Noro Retro yarn is not quite what I expected. I’m not a big fan of Noro yarn to start with, but this was a sale yarn from a local yarn store that was going out of business, and I thought I’d give it a shot. Noro Retro, unbeknownst to me, is a thick and thin yarn. It also seems to have pieces of hay or something still left in it and it’s rough. I just don’t like it.

I can only hope to look that peaceful
when I'm done knitting it.

Before I attempt the Streamside again, I’m going to take a detour and work on another pattern that I just received—the Gedifra Mayra Cabled Tank. It came free with my 10 skeins of yarn on elann.com. It’s such a pretty summer top, but it requires seaming (boo!). The design is simple enough though that I think it can easily be done in the round up to the underarms (rather than top down as the pattern requires) and then knit separately front and back. I’m going to rewrite the pattern and give it a try. The only seaming required would be five inches on each shoulder—and I think even I can tolerate that. I may also have to work in some waist shaping. As it is, the pattern is basically one big rectangle with no shaping. I love a challenging project!

I’ve also been asked to test knit a project for a fellow Ravelry knitter. It’s seriously the cutest baby blanket/woobie you’ve ever seen and it has a little bunny head attached in the center. I just ordered the yarn yesterday and expect it should knit up fairly quickly. I’m planning to make two—one for a boy and one for a girl. My fiance’s cousin is having her second set of twins (a boy and a girl) within three years of having had her first set of twins (two girls). She also has an older son. Did I mention she has five kids and she’s not 30 yet? I think you need to be in your 20s to have the energy to handle five kids under the age of nine. I can barely handle two cats sometimes. Kudos to the super moms out there.
